The Roofless Experience Premium stargazing San Pedro Atacama

About This Experience
The Roofless Experience suits travelers who care most about what they see through the eyepiece, couples marking an occasion, and anyone who would rather share the telescopes with a small group. It costs from $65 per person and holds a 4.9 rating from 131 reviews. The operator only runs it when the moon is less than 50% illuminated, so you avoid the brightest nights by design. Guides speak English and Spanish, and hotel pickup in San Pedro is included.
The centerpiece is a pair of 16-inch telescopes chosen for deep-sky observing, which means faint targets such as nebulae and galaxies, not just the moon and bright planets. The guide team is led by Jhonatan, who has training in astrotourism and is an official ACEAP 2026 Ambassador. An astronomy talk frames what you are looking at, and the photos in the listing show a walled, red-lit setup with low tables, cushions and blankets laid out between the two telescopes.
You settle in under thermal blankets with individual snacks and a drink of your choice: Cabernet Sauvignon, hot chocolate or decaffeinated tea. Each guest also gets one professional photograph under the starry sky, and the operator suggests colorful clothes so you stand out in the picture. For proposals, honeymoons or anniversaries, the operator also offers a private version called The Private Universe, which you arrange directly with them.
Pickup times move with the seasons, roughly 19:30 to 20:00 from March to August and later in summer, as late as 21:30 to 22:00 in January and February. The house rules are strict for a reason: no smoking, flashlights or speakers, since white light ruins night vision. The listing says the tour is not suitable for children under 10, pregnant women or people over 70.

Was good but telescopes not as powerful as expected
— David, July 12, 2026
Our Roofless Experience was fantastic! Our original booking had to be changed, as the weather was cloudy, but their communication throughout was excellent and it was very easy to rearrange. The hotel pickup and transport was good & our guide was friendly & very knowledgeable. Good snacks, great information and unbelievable stars! This is a 'must do' trip for anyone in San Pedro.
