The Experience
A dedicated astrophotographer, three photos per person and a guided telescope session, from $49 per person.
Hotel pickup, a sky talk from a lounge chair, then telescopes and your photo session in small sections.
Meet your driver and the rest of the group at your hotel in San Pedro, then ride out to the observation site.
Settle into a lounge chair with a blanket while the guide covers astronomy and ancestral worldviews, followed by a cocktail hour with hot and cold drinks.
The group splits into sections of no more than eight. One looks through a 12-inch telescope and a smart telescope while the other works with the photographer.
Each person gets three photos with the starry sky behind them, sent three to five days after the tour. Wear bright colors for the best result.

Photo Guide
Who takes your photo, how many you get, when they arrive and how to make the most of the shot.
Every one of the nine stargazing tours on this site includes some kind of night photo, but they differ a lot in who takes it, how many you get and when it reaches you. If the photo is a big part of why you are booking, Andestellar’s Pro Guided Stargazing & Astrophotography is the tour built around it: a photographer who specializes in astrophotography, three photos per person, sent three to five days later, from $49 per person.
If you want one good portrait and the strongest telescopes, The Roofless Experience is the other one to look at. If a souvenir shot is enough, the cheaper tours all include one.
This is what each GetYourGuide listing says about photos. Where a listing doesn’t give a number or a delivery time, the table says so; ask the operator if it matters to you.
| Tour | From (per person) | Rating | Who takes it, as listed | How many | When you get them |

| Observatory Licanatay | $31 | 4.7 (782) | Courtesy photo under the night sky | 1 | Sent by email |
Prices are the GetYourGuide “from” price per person. Layana adds one exception: on full-moon lunar tours, only the telescope eyepiece is photographed, not you.
Andestellar runs its photos as a separate session alongside the telescopes. While the guide works the 12-inch telescope and a Unistellar smart telescope, the photographer takes people for their portraits, and the group is split if needed so no section has more than eight people. You start in a lounge chair under a blanket, hear a talk on astronomy and ancestral worldviews, then have a cocktail hour with hot and cold drinks before the telescopes and photos. Pickup is from your hotel.
The catalogue rating is 5.0, from only 10 reviews, so it is a young listing compared with Llama Stargazing or Observatory Licanatay, each with close to 800. When we checked in October 2026, the next available date was priced at $49 per person. Our full Andestellar breakdown lists everything it includes.
The Roofless Experience gives you one professional photo per person and asks you to come in colorful clothes. It runs only when the moon is below 50% illumination and observes with two 16-inch telescopes, the largest size any of these listings gives. It is from $65 per person with 4.9 from 131 reviews.
The Owner Experience splits the group by language: one half does the telescopes while the other does the photo shoot, then everyone meets for a tasting of wine, hot drinks, cheeses and salami. Its itinerary gives 40 minutes at a viewpoint for photos, which is generous.
Atacama Dark Sky is a different kind of photo night. A smart telescope captures nebulae and galaxies in color and you get those deep-sky images the next day, plus photos of you against the galactic plane. The operator faces the galactic center from April to September and the outer edge of the Milky Way from October to March. It is the most expensive tour on this site, from $186 per person, for a small group.
Layana Travel promises two or three individual photos, more than any listing except Andestellar, from $43 per person.
A night portrait is a long exposure, and a few habits make a real difference.
Recent phones with a night mode can record the brighter stars and, braced on something steady, sometimes a faint Milky Way. That is a good souvenir of the sky itself.
What a phone struggles with is the shot the tours sell: you, sharp and lit, in front of a detailed Milky Way. That takes a camera on a tripod, a long exposure and someone controlling the light on your face, which is why it is the photographer’s job on these tours. Shooting through a telescope eyepiece by hand is hit and miss too, though the moon is the easiest target to try.
Use your phone for the moments between, and leave the portrait to the person with the tripod. Keep the screen dim so you don’t spoil your own night vision or anyone else’s.
Book Andestellar if the photos matter most and you want three of them. Book The Roofless Experience for one professional portrait plus two 16-inch telescopes, or the Owner Experience if you also want a proper tasting. If you mainly want a souvenir, Observatory Licanatay at $31 and Llama Stargazing at $33 both include one.

"Great tour. We were lucky to be on a new moon. Amazing."

"We had an amazing experience on the Pro Guided Stargazing and Astrophotography tour. Both of our guides, Frank and Diego, were incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout the entire experience. Frank did a fantastic job explaining the stargazing and how to use the telescope, making everything easy to understand and engaging for everyone. Diego, the photographer, was excellent at guiding us through the astrophotography process and helped us capture beautiful images of the night sky. The stargazing itself was absolutely breathtaking, and the astrophotography portion was a real highlight—such a unique opportunity. It was also a lovely touch to have snacks provided, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable and relaxed. Overall, this tour exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in exploring the night sky in a memorable way."

"A very nice tour by a young, ambitious team. Everything worked perfectly, from the punctual pick-up from the hotel, the informative explanation of the southern starry sky, the aperitif buffet that suddenly appeared as if by magic, the professional photographs, to the view through the telescope into distant worlds. Certainly not a highly scientific program, but even for me as an amateur astronomer, there was still a lot of interesting information. All in all, a wonderful evening despite the almost full moon, which we can only recommend to everyone. The ambitious, passionate young team impressed us the most. Congratulations on what you have put together!"

"The tour was very good! Joachim told us a lot about the stars, and we found it very fascinating. He made it really exciting. After that, we had a photo shoot and looked at the stars again through a telescope. The pictures are still being sent to us, and we are really looking forward to them. Highly recommended! 👍🏼"
"A well organised tour with friendly and informative guides. We enjoyed learning more about the cosmos from Frank and Diego was great at coordinating the photos without it being over the top. The hot drinks and snacks were a nice touch. We would recommend this tour. Make sure to wear lots of layers as it gets very cold!"
"Very clear explanations, organized and friendly staff"
"Experiência excelente! Guias atenciosos, noite de beleza e aprendizado."

Who takes your photo, how many you get and how to get a good one.
Yes. All nine tours on this site include some kind of night photo, from a single courtesy photo on Observatory Licanatay to three photos per person on Andestellar. See the full photo comparison.
Andestellar's Pro Guided Stargazing & Astrophotography has a photographer who specializes in astrophotography and gives you three photos per person, from $49 per person. The Roofless Experience includes one professional photo per person alongside two 16-inch telescopes.
It depends on the operator. Andestellar sends photos three to five days after the tour, Atacama Dark Sky sends its deep-sky images the next day by WhatsApp or email, and Observatory Licanatay emails its courtesy photo. The other listings don't give a delivery time, so ask your operator.
Bright, colorful clothes, which Andestellar and The Roofless Experience both recommend, over warm layers. Stay completely still until the photographer says you are done. Our cold weather guide covers the layers.
A recent phone with a night mode, held steady, can record bright stars and sometimes a faint Milky Way. A sharp, lit portrait of you in front of a detailed Milky Way needs a tripod, a long exposure and controlled light, which is what the tour photographer provides.
Some tours run with the moon up, but the Milky Way fades in moonlight. Layana Travel photographs only the telescope eyepiece on full-moon lunar tours, and The Roofless Experience operates only below 50% illumination. See our full moon guide.
